My name is Momodou Camara. A Gambian by birth, and a teacher at Rex Nursery School. I am a rolling teacher. I have been working with the school for one and a a half year now.
It was on Wednesday when one of my students came to me by the name Mariama, and she tells me ’Teacher I am sick’. I touch her forehead and realise that her body temperature is very high. This incident happened during the short break, I was about to take my breakfast but I dropped that decision immediately when I read the girl’s condition.
Thank god that we have a small clinic in the school where children can get first aid before going to the hospital. I rush her to the nurse and she was examined by Auntie Rose, that’s the school nurse’s name. It was discovered that Mariama was suffering from fever, a common sickness in The Gambia. And she was given some medicines to calm down the temperature of her body. I then take her home, I advice her parents to take her to the hospital for advance treatment. Mariama’s parents were very happy and they commented on Rex teacher’s untiring efforts towards children in their school. They said Rex staff are very caring and they are very happy that their child is in Rex Nursery School. The mother added that she thinks her child is safe in Rex Nursery School. I was very proud and happy to hear that too.
